Death of Councillor John Wilks
All associated with the Grantham Canal will be saddened to hear of the death, on 14th October, of Cllr. John Wilks, South Kesteven District Councillor, Mayor of Grantham and member of the Grantham Canal Partnership and its progenitors until earlier this year.
In John's February 'retirement' memo he wrote:
'So, after a most interesting, if at times frustrating, 28 year membership of the organisation, from which the present Executive has emerged (I was appointed as the Lincolnshire County Council representative in 1978), I now pass the baton to John Smith. I wish the Executive and all those working hard to bring the Canal back into use, every success. May your endeavours result in the provision of an amenity which will be of great benefit to the people of the Counties and Districts through which it passes.
Best Wishes
Cllr. John Wilks'
We offer our condolences to John's widow and family and owe it to him and his 28-year efforts to continue the campaign to put Grantham back on the waterway map of the UK!
