Fame at Last!

On 12th April 2004, we attended a country fair at Thrumpton Hall, just up the road from us. Unusually for a Bank Holiday Monday, the weather was gorgeous and the event was therefore well attended. In addition to the usual craft stalls, clay pigeon shooting and beer tents, there were several interesting events in the main arena including falconry displays and dogs heeling to music.

Unfortunately, Nick was trying to shoot clay pigeons when the dog show got under way so we missed the first two rounds which were 'most appealing bitch' and 'most appealing dog'. The final round was 'dog the judge would most like to take home with him' and was open to both genders. Though Nick had not thought of entering, he and Sam were propelled into the ring by Angie so enter we did. Sam was on her best behaviour and even let the judge examine her teeth without objection - that's a first!

The winner was a very nice Old English Sheepdog but then the judge pointed in our general direction. Surely he must be pointing at the Labrador Retriever next to us? ... No! - the MC announced 'The little spaniel is second'!

And here she is, proudly displaying her rosette.
